Cape Point Bike Trip Report:

The M3 to Rhodes Drive is the perfect start for this winter day motorcycle trip. This road is a very unique experience even though it is not rural.  You get to experience nature’s beauty mixed with a bit of city life.  There are many stop points on this road such as Mostert’s Mill, Rhodes Memorial, Newlands Forest and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.

We followed Rhodes Drive all the way to Fish Hoek for some ocean views and took the M4 coastal road to the M66 (Red Hill Road) turn off.

Red Hill Road is a scenic pass road with amazing views over the Simon’s Town Navy Harbour.  There are also various stops such as the SCALA North Battery (navy guns) and the Navy School.

Next we took the M65 towards Cape Point Nature Reserve.

Cape Point Nature Reserve is simply one of the most amazing places and a must visit! In reality you actually need to spend your entire day at the Reserve and you will still not be able to see everything on offer.

We had the fortune to encounter quite a few ostriches while travelling the various routes within in the reserve even though we only had a couple of hours to spend there.

Below is a map of the reserve to show what they have on offer:

From Cape Point Nature Reserve we took the M65 again but this time towards Kommetjie.  Our next stop on this road was Misty Cliffs.  Indeed also a very scenic coastal road with many view points. As we reached Kommetjie the Slangkop Lighthouse is a nice view point on this road.

Next up was the M6 Chapmans Peak Drive.

Though as in the video we reached this treasure a bit late in the day but just in time for sunset. Even on a cloudy winter’s day this route is probably one of South Africa’s most scenic bike routes.

Chapmans Peak Lookout over Hout Bay

We traveled through Hout Bay on the coastal M6 Road and took M62 Camps Bay Drive to get to our final stop on Table Mountain.

On Table Mountain we took in the city night lights and by then it was time to head home.
